Hospital unveils state-of-the-art scanner
29/07/2010

A brand new, state-of-the-art, scanner has been officially unveiled, in its recently refurbished home at West Middlesex University Hospital.

The ultra-modern and hi-tech MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scanner is one of the most advanced of its kind in the country and is faster than its predecessor and produces higher quality images, which allow more accurate diagnosis of a range of medical conditions including cancer and stroke.

Dr Catherine Ramsey, Consultant Radiologist, said: “The new scanner will benefit our patients in many ways. As the scans take less time it is more convenient and more comfortable for patients. It also means we can carry out more scans in the same amount of time; reducing waiting times for routine diagnosis even further.

“We have been using the new scanner for a few months now, and are seeing a real difference to the quality of the images it produces. It has also made a difference to the way we work and we are now looking at a number of possible developments to the service in the future.”

The previous scanner was removed in November 2009. The unit, managed by Alliance Medical Limited, reopened in March 2010 after the new scanner had been installed.  As well as a new scanner, the MRI unit at the hospital has been refurbished with an improved layout and new fixtures and fittings.
