The medical director of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, Dr Charles Ashton said that education for staff, carers and sufferers was the key to providing better support to people with dementia.

Do you think current services in Worcestershire are effective?

I don't know about Worcs for sure but my belief is that the emergence of longterm care as an aspect of modern life and living shows weaknesses in past and present care models.

I also think that a reliance on institutional care or institutionalised care providers is  a strong fallacy.

My own preference is that a principle of: it is your family, it is your responsibility should take preference over alternative strategies.  Noting that the tenet does not mean no state help but a shift towards enabling families to look after themselves (personal responsibilities and rights over direct state sponsored service provisioning that is).
